Oxfordshire Historic Churches Trust Sponsored Ride or Stride
St James the Great Church, Church Road, Radley
The Annual StRide raises funds to help keep Oxfordshire's churches available for community use whether for worship, weddings, funerals, baptisms, concerts or other community events. The event is organised by Oxfordshire Historic Churches Trust.
Saturday 11 September 10 am to 6 pm
Cyclists and walkers are sponsored for the number of churches they visit between 10 am and 6 pm on the day. Participants can start and finish at any time between these hours. You can start from any participating church in Oxfordshire and walk or cycle to as many different churches as you can, getting your sponsor sheet signed in each one. Most churches provide refreshments (squash, tea, biscuits, cake, sweets).
Half the money raised is returned to churches nominated by the StRiders so it is a good way to raise money for your local church. The other half is used by Oxfordshire Historic Churches Trust to make grants to Oxfordshire churches to help meet large building repair bills. Last year Radley Church raised a record-breaking £601 and the total raised across the county (also a record) was £128,625 including Gift Aid.
StRiders and sponsors wanted. Maps and lists of churches will be available in the Chuhrch Room and in the Village Shop.
