Having read the leaflet enclosed with April’s Radley News I feel I should comment as a resident whose home backs on to the proposed White’s Lane building site. We are not against some homes being built there and fully appreciate the need for affordable homes for young people being made available. (In fact, we have been involved with young people for most of our working lives, both paid and voluntarily.) However, most of the gardens in this road are short (around 35 ft in length) and many of the residents have been living here a long time, happy in the knowledge that the field behind them was in the green belt and would not be developed. I do hope there will be provision for some sort of green corridor between the existing houses and the proposed new ones.
I quite appreciate that those writing in the forum have the good of the village in general at heart. Hopefully, some consideration will be given to those residents who will have to endure months, possibly years, of building work if the proposed development goes ahead – and the possibility of being massively overlooked, especially if blocks of flats and three storey houses are included in the development.
Inevitably, there will be issues which will need to be addressed before development takes place, ie greatly increased traffic through the village on inadequate roads which will affect all residents – and a need for improved sewerage and surface water drainage which have already caused major problems in the village.
