Last
night, a packed public meeting at the Hadland Road
Community Centre in Abingdon gave its wholehearted
support to the recent application by Abingdon resident,
Mrs Jo Cartmell, to designate Thrupp and Bullfield
Lakes, and their immediate surroundings, as a Town
Green under the Commons Registration Act 1965. (See
story) An estimated 150 people ventured out in
the wintry weather to attend the meeting, which was
addressed by Andy Boddington, CPRE
Campaign Manager for Oxfordshire; Catherine Robinson,
secretary of the Friends
of the Trap Grounds; and Basil Crowley and Peter
Harbour from Save
Radley Lakes. Over £500 was raised in cash
donations, and many people have made generous pledges
and/or have volunteered to help with gathering evidence,
fund raising and other activities to support the project
and achieve a succesful outcome.
