Radley Lakes Town Green: Public Inquiry to be Held

Yesterday, Oxfordshire County Council announced that a Public Inquiry will be held into the application to register the Radley Lakes, specifically Thrupp and Bullfield Lakes and their surroundings, as a Town Green under the Commons Registration Act 1965. See separate story.

This will take the form of a non-statutory public inquiry headed by a government appointed inspector, who will be a senior barrister. The recommendation of the inquiry will then be considered by Oxfordshire County Council Planning and Regulation Committee, who will make the decision. The decision is unlikely to be final, as either side can take the matter to appeal.

Protestors opposed to RWE npower's plans to dump half a million tonnes of waste fuel ash into the lake, are determined to press on, despite the devastation wrecked on the site over the weekend.

The inquiry will be held at Updated 8 March 2007 The New Pavilion, Radley College Updated 8 March 2007 on 2-5 April 2007, and will be chaired by Vivian Chapman QC, a senior barrister with specialist expertise in town and village green applications.

The Inspector will hear evidence from the parties, consider the evidence and legal position, and prepare a report to the County Council setting out his recommendation. The County Council will then consider the report at the next available meeting of its Planning and Regulation Committee, which will then make a decision as to whether or not to register the site as a town or village green.

Tue 03  Apri1 2007 10.00am - 5.00pm, 6.00pm-8.00pm

Wed 04 Apri1 2007 10.00am - 5.00pm, 6.00pm-8.00pm

Thur 05  April 2007 10.00am - 5.00pm
