Our Post Office is on the list of potential closures.
We are sure you won’t want to lose that valuable
facility for the village, so please show your support.
What you need to do is write to our MP - Dr Evan Harris
- to explain to him how important the Post Office is
to the village.
Research for Postwatch in 2004 showed that:
- 75%
of those surveyed felt their local post office was
‘extremely important’
- 59%
thought it was ‘essential to their way of life’
- 91%
agreed it played an ‘important role in their
local community’
- 86%
felt that losing a Post Office means ‘a lot
of people lose their independence’
- 27%
found it difficult to get to another post office when
their local one closed
You
might like to raise some of these points in your letter.
You can leave your letters at the Post Office for onwards
transmission or you can email Evan Harris at
info@evanharris.org.uk
(If you do email, please include your full postal address
in the email)
Further
information can be found below. |

| [update
03/02/2008] |
| The threat
to Radley Post Office seems to have diminished with
the publication of the preliminary list of proposed
closures. The list of Oxfordshire branches earmarked
for closure is as follows:
- Ardington
- Begbrook
- Childrey
- Combe
- Crowmarsh
- Dalton Barracks
- Farmoor
- Fyfield
- Grandpont, Oxford
- Grimsbury, Banbury
- Church Way, Iffley
- Villiers Road, Bicester
- Long Wittenhan
- Orchard Way, Banbury
- Stanmore Crescent, Carterton
- Stanton St John
- Upton
- West End, Witney
- Wolvercote, Godstow Road
- Wootton
- Wootton Road, Abingdon
- Wytham
and does not include
Radley. Following the official announcement of these
closures on Tuesday (5th February) there will be a six
week consultation period. Each and every closure will
be contested and the Post Office has indicated that
retaining one Post Office will mean closing another.
The fight to keep Radley Post Office may not yet be
over. |

| [Update 11/02/2005] |
| When the official list was published on
5th Feb, five further Post Offices in West Oxfordshire
were identified for "replacement solutions".
These are Chadlington, Enstone, Great Rollright, Great
Tew, and Tackley. |
