Notice of planned overnight works on the railway line

16/9/2021 Network Rail has given the Parish Council advanced notice that they will be writing to residents warning of planned overnight works to replace sections of the railways stones along the tracks in Radley.

The text of their letter is copied here.

Upgrading the railway tracks between Didcot and Culham to Radley.

We’re working with train operating companies to bring you faster, safer and more reliable rail services. As part of this work, we’ll soon be working near you to replace sections of the railway stones along the tracks.

We need to do this essential work overnight, while trains aren’t running. The work will take place on midweek and weekend nights between 23 October 2021 and 30 January 2022 from 10pm until 6am the following morning each night. We’ve listed our planned shifts below, but please note that this may be subject to change.

23, 30, 31

10pm – 6am

5, 6, 12, 14, 19, 20, 21, 26, 27, 28

3, 4, 5, 10, 12, 19

10pm – 6am

2, 8, 9, 15, 16, 22, 23, 29, 30

10pm – 6am

We’ll be working along more than four miles of the railway, so we won’t be outside your home the whole time, but we wanted to let you know when you might see us working nearby. To keep our colleagues safe, vehicles moving around near our teams will need to sound horns at times and when repositioning.

We appreciate that, given the nature of our work and the machinery needed, this will be noisy at times and we want to apologise in advance if we disturb you. We will work hard to keep any unnecessary noise to a minimum. You can find out more about how we work and the machines we use on our website www.networkrail.co.uk/running-the-railway.

Thank you for your patience and understanding as we complete this important work. If you have any questions or concerns, you can call us any time on 03457 11 41 41, or you can visit www.networkrail.co.uk/contactus for more options.

Yours faithfully,

Joe Hill

High Output Track Renewal – Letter Didcot and Culham to Radley (JH)

The work is being completed by our High Output Ballast cleaning machine. This is part of an engineering train and renews the ballast (track stone) on night shifts between the hours of 22:00-06:00 as a rule.

There will be staff/vans in the vicinity. Our staff are instructed to keep noise to a minimum and will be respectful to the residents.

To support the work we have a Site Access Cabin to sign the staff in. The most disruptive bit will be the noise on track during our works and we then have follow up tamps where the ballast is compacted, before the track can be handed back to the maintenance department.
