The Radley Gravel Pits in 1982

Aerial Photographs

The Eastern Lakes

Aerial view of the Eastern Lakes taken in November or December 1978

Aerial view, looking south, of the eastern lakes and gravel workings (lakes A,B,C,D) in winter c1982.

This picture, and the accompanying one were once thought to have been taken a few years earlier. However the JET building, which was completed during 1981-82, is visible in the top left-hand quarter. The picture is believed to have been taken as part of the planning process to use these gravel pits for the disposal of PFA from Didcot Power Station, which was granted in 1982. On this basis the picture and the accompanying one were most probably taken during the winter of 1981/82.
