Dragonflies and Damselflies (odonata)

   
 

Beautiful demoiselle, photographed 19 June 2005 by L Pasquire

Most likely a Banded Demioselle (Calopteryx splendens),

but could just possibly be a Beautiful Demoiselle (Calopteryx virgo) - male based upon the fact that the wings are all blue and the darker patch is extensive, covering ~2/3 of wing. However comparison with the picture opposite tends to confirm the former identification.
