Parish Council update for May

Parish Council elections – May 2019

Disappointingly, only six people put their names forward to fill the eleven places on the parish council. Those six are therefore duly elected without a contest. They are Lynda Pasquire Crowley, Priscilla Dudding, Chris Henderson, Bob Johnston, Jenny Standen and Elaine Walton.  The new councillors will continue to do their best to serve the people of Radley.

Annual parish meeting: 11th May at 11am in the Bowyer Arms

The Annual Parish Meeting will be held at 11.00 am on Saturday 11 May, as last year in the Bowyer Arms. This is your opportunity to hear what the parish council has been doing over the last year and to express your views about priorities for the parish council going forward. Everyone is very welcome.

South Kennington development

Readers may have seen the large new Redrow banners overlooking the Kennington Road on the south Kennington development site in Radley Parish. Planning permission was finally granted for this development in March, and works are likely to commence over the next few months. The parish council will be monitoring the development work closely.

Expressway meeting on 8 July

As noted in the last Radley News, the Parish Council is organising a meeting on Monday 8 July to inform residents about the state of plans for the Oxford-Cambridge Expressway. Radley College are kindly letting us use their Silk Hall as the venue and we are delighted that our local MP Layla Moran has agreed to chair the meeting. Bev Hindle of OCC and Matt Stafford of the Highways England have been invited to explain respectively the wider thinking on the so-called Oxford-Cambridge Arc and the current state of thinking on possible routes for the new road in the Oxford area. Dr Hazel Dawe of the No Expressway Alliance will put the case against the Expressway, and there will be plenty of time after the speakers for your questions. Put the date in your diary.

We are very much hoping that a route through Radley will not be one of those identified for further consideration by Highways England in their consultation this coming Autumn. However, of the routes identified in their Corridor Report, two thirds appear to pass through Radley so this is a matter we need to take very seriously.

The next regular meeting of the Parish Council will be on Thursday 23rd May in the Church Room at 7.30pm
