Police Neighbourhood Update for January 2020

The Abingdon Area team Neighbourhood Policing Update offers advice on home security, updates on their policing priorities and dates of Have Your Say meetings to be held in Abingdon later this month.

“Burglary: This still remains a priority for the Abingdon Neighbourhood Team. We have received reports of burglaries in the Abingdon outer area around Botley, Cumnor and Wootton.

We would like to urge residents to think about their home security with our top 10 burglary prevention tips:
1. Look around as you leave your property. Is there any suspicious vehicles or people?
2. Lock doors and windows
3. Install CCTV and/or camera enabled door bells
4. Don’t advertise your whereabouts on social media
5. Change your routine where possible
6. Don’t leave keys in windows and doors
7. Leave a variety of lights on in the evening
8. Target harden your garden – is there anything in your garden that could be used to force a door or smash a window? Make sure your sheds are secure.
9. Follow us on Facebook and Twitter for crime updates (see bottom of page for details)
10. Sign up for Thames Valley Alerts (www.thamesvalleyalert.co.uk and click JOIN) to receive crime updates for your area
If you see any suspicious vehicles or people please report it to us by calling 101 or 999 if you believe a crime is in progress.

The Abingdon Neighbourhood Team would be happy to come and look at your home security and give you advice. If this is something you would like please email AbingdonNHPT@thamesvalley.pnn.police.uk

Anti-social behaviour (ASB): Unfortunately over the last few weeks, there has been an increase in anti-social behaviour (ASB) in the town centre. This has included eggs being thrown at shop windows in the evenings. Officers from the neighbourhood team have completed several home visits to young people involved in the recent ASB. The team have spent time on foot patrol in the town centre and a Section 34 Dispersal Order was authorised between 7th and 9th January to assist officers with the issue. During this time, two males were issued Section 35 Notices and directed to leave the area. In addition to this, four males have been voluntary interviewed in relation to criminal damage and ASB which occurred in East St Helen St and Park Road.
We have also received reports of ASB at Campion Road, Daisy Bank. Patrols and engagement have increased in the area. Please continue to report all ASB online or by calling 101.
Violent crime: We are appealing for witnesses following and assault between 11pm on Monday (23/12) and 2am on Tuesday (24/12) the victim, a 36-year-old man, was assaulted in the Red Lion Pub, Abingdon Road, Drayton. The victim sustained injuries to his face but did not require hospital treatment. The offender is described as a white man, aged in his late twenties, around 6ft 1ins tall with a large beard. He was wearing a red hat. If you have information please report online or call 101 and quote reference number 43190402071.
