This year’s front garden competition will be held on Friday 1st and Saturday 2nd of July.
In a departure from the traditional format, shortlisting will take place on Friday with final judging on the Saturday afternoon.
First and second prizes will be awarded in three categories: Best Garden, Tubs and/or hanging baskets and Most colourful flower garden. With awards for commended and highly commended gardens
Information on judging:
Best Gardens
Overall design & layout: suitability of design to site, imaginative use of space
Quality and placing of plants: their health, vigour, and suitability, and suitability of locations, blending of colours, shapes and textures
Cultivation and maintenance: freedom from weeds, upkeep of paths, structures, lawns, hedges, etc
Year-round interest: provision for colour, textures, etc. through different seasons
General impression: overall appearance, amenity value
Tubs and/or Hanging Baskets
Quality of plants: their health, vigour and suitability
Presentation and arrangement: placing and grouping of plants; blending of colours, shapes and textures
Variety and interest: range of plants and shapes which are mutually complementary
General impression: overall appearance, amenity value
Most Colourful Flower Garden
Overall design and layout: suitability of design to site; imaginative use of space
Quality and placing of plants: their health, vigour, arrangement and use of colour (e.g. mixing, blending, contrasting)
Variety and interest: range of plants and shapes which are mutually complementary
General impression: overall appearance, amenity value
