Radley Retirement Group – Newsletter April 2015

rrg

At our March meeting we had our Annual General Meeting.  Carol Milward reported that the average attendance at our meetings over the year was 60 and that the outings and theatre trips have been well supported.  She expressed her thanks to the Committee and others who have helped with the running of the club  over the last year and  thanked outgoing Committee members and welcomed Jenny Jones.

We then enjoyed meeting Emma and Sylwia, two of our local Community Support Officers, followed by a talk about Generation Games by AgeUK.

Future date…..

On Tuesday 21st April we are going to Cambridge for the day.  There are many things to do in Cambridge, all within walking distance: there are 52 shops in the arcade, there is an Open-top bus ride, Botanical Gardens and of course the world-famous Fitzwilliam Museum.  We will depart at 8.30am and leave Cambridge at 4.30pm.

Cost: £17.50 for members (£19.50 for non-members).

Our social secretary encourages everyone to support our day trips,  as we need full coaches to break even on costs.  If we only fill half the coach, the club has to subsidize the outing, or we need to cancel.  The Committee are therefore asking more of our members to support the outings.

If anyone is interested in going on this  trip, please contact Diane Shaw on  01235 527158.

Theatre….

We are offering 2 dates to go to the theatre:

  • The Sound of Music” (Abingdon Operatic Society) at the Amey Hall on Saturday, 18th April at 2.30pm
  • “The King’s Speech” at the Oxford Playhouse on Thursday, 14 May at 2.30pm

If you are interested in going on a  theatre trip, please talk to Andrea Saunders.  Payment must be made at the time of booking.

Holidays….

  • Spring holiday in Falmouth, Cornwall in May 2015 (twin rooms only)
  • Lytham St Anne’s, in November 2015 – our festive break …

If you are interested in our holidays please contact Dot Hewlett.

Our speaker for the next meeting  on Tuesday, 14th April is Julia Spragg, who will talk about the work of Greenpeace.   Doors open at 1.30pm and the meeting begins at 2pm.

Membership: Just a reminder that membership is open to all those over 50 who are retired from full-time work and who live within the Ecclestiastical boundary of Radley village. The annual subscription is £5.
