Radley Retirement Group – Newsletter August 2019

What we have been doing

Our July meeting was supposed to be a talk from Carol McKay about “Environmental Health” but unfortunately she was unable to come but instead Paul Mann stepped in and gave us a very informative talk about “Emergency Planning for Oxfordshire”.  We were  surprised at how many different bodies would be involved should there be an emergency such as a major flood or a serious road collision,  or major fire,  or some other major catastrophe in Oxfordshire.  It means liaising with councils, hospitals, highways, the fire service and many local bodies. Emergency shelters have to be found with food and drinks and bedding , and volunteers to assist in making people as comfortable as possible.  It certainly gave us food for thought of the complexity of such a disaster, should it happen in our region.

After the speaker the Chairman asked members to remain in their seats for a special visitor who was the Clerk of the Green Cloth, Nicola Beauchamp.  She gave us a very generous donation of £300 from her charity events to spend within the Club.  We look forward to a “special” event in the near future.
