Radley Retirement Group – Newsletter August 2022

What we have been doing

We hosted the tea and cake refreshments in the Pavilion for the Radley Flower Show, when despite the strong winds many people attended.  Our selection of cakes was very popular.

For our August meeting we had a Gin tasting session with scones and cream, in the Bowyers which proved very interesting for those who attended.  Elaine, from the Bowyers explained how to smell and taste the gins, first without a mixer and then with, showing the difference a mixer made. We tried three very different gins with different mixers.

Our meeting next month will be back in the Village Hall on 9th August when it will be “The Swinging 60’s”.

Upcoming events

August 16th:  Bucklers Hard, River Trip and Lymington.  This is where stunning scenery and history come together for an unforgettable trip to the New Forest.  Once a bustling ship building village where ships for Nelson’s Navy were built it is now a peaceful haven alongside the Beaulieu River.  Explore the village or the Museum or step through the door of the shipwright’s cottage and see how they lived in the 18th century.  We will then move on to Lymington for a short visit where you can shop or visit the pretty harbour and watch the boats.

There is something for everyone on this trip.

The cost will be £30 for members and £32 for non-members.

September 20th: Morton in Marsh Market and Batsford Arboretum.

Details for this will follow.

If you would like to go on these trips, please contact Graham on Ab. 555187 or grahamw.collett@gmail.com

Unfortunately, due to lack of response the holiday to Ilfracombe has had to be cancelled which is a great disappointment.  However, we are hoping to get a better response for our holiday to Grange over Sands which will be next May.

We will have details of this holiday in the near future but if you are interested in this please contact Chris on Ab.526377 or chris.gasson51@gmail.com
