Radley Retirement Group – Newsletter January 2018

What we have been doing

As a result of the very successful Bazaar we were able to give a donation to PHAB  .  (Physically handicapped and able bodied) and have money for our own funds to enable us to provide good speakers.

The fashion show organised by M& Co was a very good evening.  There was mulled wine and nibbles and models showed some of the winter/party clothes.  We were able to buy clothes with a discount.  We supplied some of the raffle prizes and the evening made £245.50 so we were able to give a donation to Radley  Good Neighbours and PHAB.

For the second time this year RRG managed to have a holiday with sunshine every day, although this time it was very cold.  The hotel  in Bournemouth was very good with very attentive staff and very good food.  As usual Dot and our driver (Merion) made  sure that we had some good trips out every day,  but because it was too cold to wander around the places we visited for too long,  got us back in time for afternoon tea each day, which meant that we could have a good chat to other members of the group.  We are now looking forward to the next holiday and thank Dot for organising it once again.

Our meeting in December was our Christmas party when we were entertained by Chris Gasson.  He provided festive music and also did some tricks around the tables.  We did not have as many members present as the weather had been terrible and the snow and ice was only just melting.   We had sandwiches and savouries  and cakes on lovely cake stands on each table,  all organised by Carol and Sue.  The food was provided by a donation kindly given by Stan Baker.

Future dates

Our next meeting Tuesday 9th January 2018  when we will have our annual auction of unwanted Christmas gifts.  If you have any unwanted Christmas gifts bring them along and have fun bidding for items you may like to have.

Doors are open at 1.30pm and the meeting starts at 2pm in the Village Hall

The Anniversary lunch will be held at Cosenors House on January 20th

We look forward to the outings arranged by Diane for  2018 and hope you will support them.  If anyone is interested in going on any of the trips, please contact Diane Shaw on 07926192127 or carol Milward on 01235 526326.  Details  of these will be published nearer the time.

The trips to the theatre have also finished as it is now pantomime time.   If there is an event at the Playhouse that anyone is interested in, then please contact Andrea  Saunders and she will see if she can arrange it.

  • Barmouth: May 2018

This is a holiday in North Wales with two special days included.  One day we shall be going on the Welsh Highland Railway and another day visiting Portmerion, both included in the price of the holiday. We are staying at the Arbour Hotel situated on the flat seafront.  All rooms have en-suite facilities.  The Hotel has a bar and lift.  There will be a free day to do your own thing, perhaps stroll across the estuary on the long wooden bridge or catch another train.

As we now have 40 people Barnes have reduced the cost by £30 to £390.  The balance of £350 (plus  £30 single supplement) to be paid in March.

  • Harrogate and York: November 2018

This is a festive break.

The Hotel is The Cairn Hotel Harrogate.  It has all the usual facilities with a lift to all floors.  Live entertainment each evening.  We will be having one day in York and one day a circular tour of the Yorkshire Dales.  There will be a free day to enjoy Harrogate.

On the journey there, we will be stopping in Chesterfield and on the return at Litchfield.

The cost of the holiday is £300 (cheaper than the last November one, except for singles (£80).  Deposits of £40 to be paid in April.

All holidays are open to family and friends so if you are interested in our holidays please contact Dot Hewlett  on Ab 531082
