Radley Retirement Group – Newsletter March 2017

Our speaker for the February meeting was Andrew Humphries whose talk was entitled “It shouldn’t happen to a restorer”  This  proved to be a very interesting talk about some of the difficulties in restoring furniture but also of the benefits .  He told us of his work with Viscount Linley and  the Queen , and of doing work for other celebrities.  He also brought samples of the intricate work of inserting straw into the legs of tables for decoration.

Just a reminder to those who may have forgotten, that the subs for 2017 are now due.  (£8 for members and £14  for a married couple)

Sadly in February we had to say goodbye to several of our members.  They were David Buckle, Neville Toms and Jacqui Wade.

Andrea organised a trip to the Playhouse to see “Silver lining” which tells the tale of five extraordinary women who come together one treacherous night to recreate The Great Escape – senior citizen style!

Future dates.

Our first outing for the year will be in April to the Royal Mint and Cardiff Bay.
We will have time to explore Cardiff Bay before our tour of the Royal Mint in the afternoon.
The cost will be £29 for members and £31 for visitors.

If anyone is interested in going on any of our  trips  please contact Diane Shaw on 07926192127  or Carole Milward on 01235 526326 to see if there are any spaces.

Theatre Trip

The March visit to The Playhouse will be to see “La Strada”.  This is the story of wide-eyed Gelsomina, who is sold by her penniless mother to Zampano, a travelling sideshow strongman. As they journey through the Italian countryside performing for their keep, their perilous road trip leads them to a ragtag travelling circus where they meet Matto, the tightrope walker, who rekindles Gelsomina’s spirit with new found confidence.

If you are interested in going on a theatre trip please see Andrea Saunders. Payment must be made at the time of booking.  Again these are open to anyone.
