Radley Retirement Group – Newsletter March 2020

What we have been doing

John Huddleston was our speaker in February and he showed us a video of his Investiture at Windsor Castle.  This was most interesting as we were able to see the progress of an investiture (behind the scenes), with the courtiers telling the recipients where to stand and how to proceed.  John also brought along his medal and also the imposing envelope in which he received notification that he had been recommended for a medal.  He had several mementos of the day which I am sure both he and his family will treasure.

On a wet and windy Saturday afternoon we had our “Entertainment” afternoon.  This was made possible by a donation from the Clerk of the Green Cloth (Nicola Beauchamp) who was our guest of honour.  Our entertainer was Paul Dumas who has appeared on television and on the cruise ships.  He is a singer, comedian and ventriloquist.  He gave us a super afternoon with some hilarious moments with his dummies, and some fantastic singing.  Bill Shaw gamely became his stooge at one point and became his “ventriloquist doll”.  After the entertainment we had cheese and biscuits and wine followed by cups of tea or coffee.  A raffle ticket was placed by each place setting and the table decorations, made by Carol Milward, were raffled at the end of the afternoon. Everyone decided that this was a lovely way to spend a miserable afternoon, weather wise, and we all went home having had a wonderful afternoon. Our thanks go to Nicola for making this possible.

Just a reminder that the subs are now due for this year.  The cost is the same as last year, £8 for a single member and £14 for a couple.

Don’t forget the “Meet and Mingle” sessions at the Bowyer Arms each Monday from 12pm where you can have a chat with others.
