Radley Retirement Group – Newsletter May 2015

rrg

At our April meeting our speaker was Julia Spragg  who gave us a very interesting talk on the work of “Greenpeace” This was followed by a question and answer time when members asked  Julia questions they were concerned about.

Our March outing was a trip to Royal Worcester Porcelain Museum with 31 members and friends attending.  The Museum is housed in the old porcelain factory on two floors.  It is a light and airy museum with cabinets filled with the most exquisite pieces of porcelain, with an audio tour giving further information.  As an added bonus Henry Sandon, (from the Antiques  Roadshow), was in the Museum to give his expert  help to anyone who spoke to him. On the second floor are more modern pieces of porcelain, and information about the workers and their conditions of work.  There is a chart on the wall stating the rules and conduct all workers had to abide by.  At the end of the Museum there was a short screening showing the process of making the pottery and how the moulds were made for a piece of porcelain showing the Queen when she was Princess Elizabeth riding a horse side-saddle.

After the visit to the Museum we were able to explore Worcester.  Many of the group went to the Cathedral where some were lucky enough to hear a children’s choir, others walked along the river, some visited Greyfriars National Trust house and garden, while others found the shops!

After a dull foggy start to the day, the sun came out, and a good day was had by all and we were able to appreciate the countryside on the return journey.
