Radley Retirement Group – Newsletter September 2018

What we have been doing

Our speaker in August was Mr Alan Brewer whose talk was “Up in the Clouds (with fluffy bits)”.  To describe Alan Brewer as “well travelled” would be something of an understatement.  During a 38 year career with British Airways (formerly BOAC) as an airline steward, this former BBC chef has travelled the world many times over and looked after Royalty, Prime Ministers, Pop Stars and Celebrities.  In his light hearted presentation Alan shared some of his interesting encounters and anecdotes with us.

Future dates

Our next meeting Tuesday 11th September when we will hear from Keith Jansz “Painting by Mouth and Foot”.  Keith took up the challenge when he became tetraplegic.  He lost the use of his hands and legs in a tragic road accident in 1995 and was paralysed from the neck down.  He turned to painting with the added challenge of painting with his mouth not his hands.

Holidays

  • Harrogate and York: November 2018

This is a festive break.

The Hotel is The Cairn Hotel Harrogate.  It has all the usual facilities with a lift to all floors.  There is live entertainment each evening.  We will be having one day in York and one day a circular tour of the Yorkshire Dales.  There will be a free day to enjoy Harrogate.

On the journey there, we will be stopping in Chesterfield and on the return at Litchfield.

The cost of the holiday is £300 (cheaper than the last November one, except for singles (£80).  Balance to be paid in September.

  • Isle of Man: May 2019

We cross the ferry to the Isle of Man from Heysham where we are staying at The Chesterfield Hotel in Douglas, located on the sea front, and it provides all the usual facilities.  It has a lounge, bar, restaurant and a lift.

We will have three days exploring the island including a journey on the Snaefell Mountain Railway where there should  be magnificent views of “six countries” weather permitting !!!!  You will have a free day to rest or try out one of the other railways and go on a horse tram.

The cost of the holiday is £550 including the ferry crossings and the railway but could be reduced as the Barmouth one was if we get enough people.

Deposits of £40 to be paid in November.

  • Spain: April 2019. Hotel Port Denia on the Costa Blanca.

This is a 7 day all inclusive holiday.

If you are interested in this holiday please contact Judith on Ab 531001

All holidays are open to family and friends so if you are interested in our holidays please contact Dot Hewlett  on Ab 531082.  There are still places available for Harrogate and the Isle of Man
