Save Radley Village Hall

The Management Committee of Radley Village Hall has launched an appeal to raise money to install new double glazed windows and sound-proofing panels to the walls, ceiling and doors at a cost of some £13,500. Without this work, the Vale of the White Horse District Council will not withdraw a Noise Abatement Order imposed by its Environment Office following complaints from local residents about the level of noise (mostly from discos) from the Village Hall. The Order will be reviewed after six months.

Positive progress has been made in raising the money required for the sound-proofing. But without this work, the Hall could close as it will lose a vital source of revenue. All birthday parties for people under 21 have been cancelled until further notice, resulting in a considerable drop in income from the bar – crucial in keeping the Hall solvent.

The Parish Council has already agreed to provide a grant. The Vale of the White Horse District Council’s North East Area Committee has offered a contribution provided this is matched by the Parish Council.

An application for £3,500 has been made to WREN – a charity that awards grants to community projects using money from the Landfill Communities Fund (raised from the Landfill Tax). Early indications are promising.

Two major organisations have also promised funds plus some private residents.

Prospects look good but there is likely to be a shortfall of some £3,000.

It will also be necessary to decorate the Hall once work is complete and, at some time in the future, to install air conditioning as the windows next to the children’s playground will non-opening.

Without the Village Hall, many activities and groups would have no where to meet.

Any contributions to the Appeal Fund are welcome, however small.

Please send any contributions to:
