Update on access along Church Road

1 September update: Pye advise that work in Church Road is taking longer than expected –

“We will remain undertaking works to Church Road via the use of traffic lights and 1 lane closure until the end of September.

Buses will remain on their current route turning via St James’ Road and this has been agreed with the bus operator.

We started the car park works last week and are prioritising these works which will also deliver a temporary footpath through the car park which will maintain pedestrian access whilst the footpath on the southern side of Church Road is under construction.

We envisage the car park works will be completed in approximately 2 weeks with resurfacing planned on 9th September.”

Pye advise that the pavement will be open until Sunday evening 1st August. It will then be closed Monday 2nd, Tuesday 3rd and Wednesday 4th next week when deep excavation work across the road and exposure of power cables mean that it would be unsafe to allow people to walk past.  The footpath will reopen on Thursday 5th and then will remain open until work commences on the pavement itself directly outside the site.

Pye have assured the Council that from then to the end of the works they will make alternative arrangements so that a pedestrian through route is maintained.

Further information regarding the works may be obtained by contacting Tom Greene at MJ Evans Construction Ltd on email tom.greene@mjevansconstruction.co.uk
