Vacancy for a Village Lengthsman

Radley Parish Council wishes to appoint a Village Lengthsman*.  This is a practical maintenance role which will contribute to ensuring that the parish is clean, safe, well-presented and parish assets are maintained to a high standard.

Hours: Average of 7 hours per week to be worked flexibly.

Pay: SCP 6 (10.238 per hour)

The successful candidate will have experience of undertaking minor repair and maintenance tasks.  He or she will ideally have experience of working in a similar environment and will be able to work independently and manage their own timetable of work.

*‘Lengthsman’ is a traditional position, historically someone employed in a parish to maintain the roads, trim back hedges, cut vegetation, fill in potholes, clear ditches and similar. While the functions have changed to some extent, the council considers that the term captures well the important role we seek to fill.
