Good News – Radley Flower Show is back!

We are delighted to announce that the Radley Flower Show will be held on Saturday 26th June at the village hall – the theme is “Japan and the 2021 Summer Olympics”.

Radley Flower Show is a long-standing village tradition – the first show was held in 1899 – and is a friendly, amateur competition where adults, teenagers and children can show off their hobbies and talents (or try something new!). As well as flowers, there are many categories to enter, e.g. scarecrows, floral art, baking, preserve making, photography, handicrafts, art, knitting, painting.

Themed categories this year include:

  • Bonsai trees
  • Japanese minimalist style floral art exhibits
  • Posies for Olympic medallists
  • Energy bars for Olympic athletes
  • Cakes inspired by Japanese cherry blossom time
  • Bread Olympic rings
  • Origami
  • Furoshiki gift wrapping (Japanese art of wrapping with fabric)
  • Photographs of sunrise, wading birds, tree blossom and fans
  • Wave paintings in the style of Hokusai (youths)
  • Japanese rock “zen” gardens (youths)
  • Lego Bullet trains (children)
  • Decorated rice cakes (children)
  • Pictures of volcanoes inspired by Mount Fuji (children)
  • Japanese lanterns and fans (children)
  • Scarecrows – sumo wrestlers and Olympic athletes (groups and individuals)

Programmes and entry forms are available at the Radley Village shop or on the Flower Show page here

Please submit entry forms at least one week before the show – by Friday 18th June.

This year to help with distancing we are expanding outside into the field by the village hall – we are organising gazebos and marquees. Let’s hope we have good weather!

The show will be open to the public for viewing from 2 p.m. and there will be a raffle and skittles competition. You may wish to bring a picnic to have on the field.
