Play area remains closed, playing field is open

UPDATED 14th May 2020: The latest government guidance confirms that the play area and pavilion should remain closed. The playing field is still open for your daily exercise.  Please continue to maintain social distancing and appropriate hygiene. Read the up to date guidance.

UPDATED 25th March 2020: Following government instructions the Gooseacre play area will remain closed until further notice.  No safety checks will be carried out during this time. For their health and that of others in the community, please do not allow your children to access the site.

23rd March 2020: In response to a recommendation by the Vale of White Horse District Council, it is with regret that the Parish Council feels that it must close the Gooseacre Play Area until further notice.

Emily Smith, Leader of the Vale Council writes:

“Dear Parishes with play equipment

I have asked Vale to shut all play equipment asap and would like to ask you to do the same. Some councils and parishes have already taken this decision and after discussion and reflection we agreed that it is not reasonable to expect children to adhere to the 2m rule.

The Vale’s open spaces will remain open; they have an important part to play in managing people’s wellbeing and mental health over the following weeks.

Local families have been congregating at the play equipment over the weekend, breaking the 2m rule. And of course the virus can live for 72hrs on hard surfaces. Thank you for considering this action and helping to keep our families  and those they come into contact with safe.

Emily Smith,

Leader of the Vale of White Horse District Council

The playing field will remain open.
